Why we built Chassis

Africa does not have a shortage of talent. It has a shortage of dependable compute that feels like a product — not a maze of opaque invoices, brittle dashboards, and tools that assume your lab is already on another continent’s network and payment rails.

OkeyMeta Ltd builds for people who ship. Chassis is our GPU cloud: organization workspaces, prepaid USD wallets, instances and clusters you can launch from the console or the API, and serverless endpoints when traffic is bursty. We built it because the region’s AI moment will not wait for someone else’s platform to finally care.

The infrastructure gap we kept meeting

Across Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, Johannesburg, and diaspora teams building for home markets, the story rhymed. Researchers fine-tuning open models on borrowed cards. Startups serving inference from a laptop until the demo crashed. Universities with brilliant students and no calm place to rent serious GPUs for a week without a procurement odyssey. The alternative was often “use whatever overseas cloud you can get a card for” — with latency, FX friction, and support that never woke up in our timezone.

AI infrastructure is not a luxury layer on top of African software. It is becoming the substrate for health diagnostics, agriculture yield models, local-language NLP, fintech fraud systems, creative tools, and the next generation of education products. If that substrate is always rented as an afterthought from someone else’s map, African builders stay tenants in their own future.

What Chassis is trying to be

A GPU cloud that feels finished. You see Chassis resource IDs end to end — in the console, the public API, and the SDKs — so automation and ops share one vocabulary. You fund an organization wallet in USD, watch burn while machines run, and stop spend when the job is done. You can host a service, train a model, stand up a multi-node cluster, or call a serverless endpoint without learning four different mental models.

• Wallet-first billing with a clear minimum top-up — no surprise invoice weeks later.
• Official TypeScript and Python SDKs that mirror the same /api/v1 surface you curl in CI.
• Team invites, org roles, and API keys scoped to the workspace that owns the wallet.

Africa first, not Africa only

We design for the constraints we live with: prepaid cashflow discipline, teams that collaborate across cities and time zones, and builders who need documentation that tells the truth. Those constraints make better products for everyone. A calm wallet, honest $/hr, and an API that does not fight you are good ideas in Berlin or Bangalore too — we just refuse to treat African teams as edge cases.

Chassis is also a bet that African AI companies should own more of their stack narrative. Brands, docs, SDKs, and identifiers that say Chassis — so when you publish a model card, a paper, or a customer case study, the compute layer is something you can explain without apologizing for the tooling.

What we refuse to ship

• Confusing identifier schemes in the UI or API — every resource uses Chassis IDs.
• Post-paid invoices that show up after the experiment is forgotten.
• SDKs that only work in a demo notebook and fall apart in CI.
• Fake dashboards and demo chart data — empty states stay honest.

The vision from here

Short term: make spinning a GPU, training a run, and serving an endpoint feel boringly reliable for African teams and anyone who wants the same calm. Medium term: deepen clusters, serverless, and SDK coverage so research labs and startups can standardize on Chassis the way they standardize on git. Longer term: be part of the regional AI infrastructure story — capacity, culture, and company — so the next decade of African models is trained and served on rails we helped build.

Infrastructure is destiny when the work is intelligence. We would rather spend the next years making that destiny more local, more legible, and more fair — one wallet, one org, one Chassis ID at a time.
